This is a photo I took a few months ago but forgot to upload! No surprises there, it happens to me all the time! πŸ˜€ But this time I wanted to compare how different the photo would look after I’m done with it, so after creating the HDR, I saved the file and started editing as I normally do. I didn’t think that it was going to end up as a B&W photo but I’m quite pleased with how it looks, I also added a dusty texture to make it look like an old photo and added a lot of contrast to make it more dramatic! πŸ™‚

I uploaded both photos here so you can take a look!

Which one do you prefer? πŸ™‚

    HDR created with 5 photographs.
Location: Ponta Delgada – Madeira Island – Portugal
    Shutter speed: ??? seconds.
    F: /7.1
    Focal Length: 21mm
    ISO: 100

    1. I think the B&W is the winner here, at least for me. It’s a lot more dramatic and it adds depth to the image. I really like it! What software did you use to edit it in B&W? If you don’t mind me asking…

      • Yes totally! πŸ˜€ Sometimes color just gets in the way, like with this photo, it wasn’t looking too interesting but after i turned it to black and white the whole thing just came to life, sort of! πŸ˜€ Of course I don’t mind! I used Silver Efex pro 2 to edit the B&W and after that i created a few levels using Photoshop! πŸ˜€

        • Yes, exactly! πŸ˜€ Ah, nice! I thought i recognized the Silver Efex feeling in this one! You did a great job with your editing! It’s my favorite tool for B&W as well πŸ˜‰

          • Oh yes, Silver Efex is fantastic, I love it! πŸ˜€ But I also like the Analog Efex, it has so many options and stuff to tweak, it’s great! Have you ever used this one? πŸ˜€ And thank you very much Alex! πŸ˜€

            • Ah great!! πŸ˜€ I love it too! πŸ˜€ I rarely use Color Efex but I use Analog 2 and Silver Efex in almost all my photos as well πŸ˜‰ I also use HDR Efex 2 to process a lot of my HDR photos! πŸ™‚

      • Thank you! πŸ˜€ Yes it’s much better, the color version looks kind of “flat” while the b&w makes the photo pop, it looks much more dramatic and the textures are much more intense! πŸ˜€

    2. I think you really succeeded on making it look like an old photo – well done! For that reason I choose the B&W one πŸ™‚ I also think the color version has some distracting elements.
Oh and obrigada for your comment on my “About” page πŸ˜‰
