Day Nine – Endless

Levada tunnels revisited! ๐Ÿ˜€

Interesting fact about this photo, i didn’t use flash to take it ๐Ÿ™‚ It was taken while in the middle of a long tunnel. It’s pitch black in there, so I put the camera down on the tripod and set the exposure for 30 seconds, then pressed the shutter and “painted” the walls of the tunnel with light from the flashlights! This way i was able to capture all these textures on the walls and ground! ๐Ÿ™‚

It seems that a lot of people slip in this part of the tunnel, as you can see from the footsteps! Also, the height of it is around 1.70m and the width ranges from 30 cm to 2 meters.

Hope you enjoy it, and see you tomorrow! ๐Ÿ˜€

    • it’s sooo cold in there!! and we can feel water running beneath or feet ๐Ÿ˜€ But this is the wide part of the tunnel, there’s quite a bit of it where we only have about 30 centimeters to walk on. A slip means a dip in freezing water lol Levadas are awesome.

  1. Very interesting image. I was suddenly reminded of something. I’ll share it: At the planetarium in NYC one time they were about to show a black hole. A little voice in the dark said, “I don’t want to go in a black hole Mommy.” Dark holes can be scary places.

    • I can relate to that! I’m not a fan of small/narrow dark places. ๐Ÿ™‚ This tunnel is almost 1 kilometer long, without light it would be incredibly scary and dangerous to cross! With a powerful flash light it’s not a problem though, but of course we still need to be careful because there are jagged rocks everywhere and it’s freezing cold in there!

    • it took 6 tries to get this much texture, the first time i didn’t move the flash light at all and the photo looked very smooth and dark! moving it around in circles creates these sharp shadows, but moving around fast and in every direction won’t create shadows at all! ๐Ÿ™‚ So yeah, a bit of hit or miss, it requires a bit of experimentation ๐Ÿ˜€ I’m glad you like it!
